When words fail you it's important to be there.

There are times when you just don't know what to say to friends who have lost someone they loved.

It's especially difficult to find the right words of comfort when a family has suffered a sudden death, a suicide, the loss of a small child or some other tragedy that is especially devastating.  Friends sometimes hesitate to visit because they don't know what to say.  But grieving families have a special  need for solace from friends. 

Words can fail you, but your presence can speak volumes.  Just holding their hands and sharing their sorrow can tell them of your concern and affection for the bereaved.

When words fail you, it's important to just be there.  As funeral service professionals, we've seen how much that can mean to the grieving family.

     An angel kneels by the fireplace. On the mantel three more angels hover, their feet facing a white covering with yet more celestial beings and trumpets woven into the threads.

     And listen.  You can hear them!  Or at least you can hear someone's gentle harp and guitar music, floating on the air. 

     It's a room of comfort.  And peace.

    This is the front living room at McHenry Funeral Home, in Wyalusing.  For years the McHenry's have been seeking to offer friends and neighbors peace during the turbulence, comfort during the sorrow...
