H. Grace Treaster, 90, of Dushore (Forks Towship), PA, passed away on April 14, 2008, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
 

She was born on November 4, 1917 in Overton, PA, a daughter of the late Ira D. and Helen M. (Musselman) Vough.
 

She is a graduate of New Albany High School.
 

On May 19, 1938, Grace married Luther A. Treaster. Her husband preceded her in death on May 9, 1983.
 

Grace was a member of St. Paul’s Church. She also served on the Sullivan County Election Board, and was an avid reader. She found great pleasure in her time spent with the Millview Missionary Society quilting.
 

She leaves surviving her children: Allen L. (Delores) Treaster, of Julian, PA, Vernon L. (Sandra) Feaster, of Green Valley, AZ, Paul C. (Darla) Treaster, of Dushore, PA; by granddaughter: Terri Olcott;  grandson: Scott A. Treaster; granddaughter: Tamara Heess; and by a great grandson: Joshua Heess.
 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by brothers: Lynn M. Vough and Clair F. Vough.
 

Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at St. Paul’s Church in Overton from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
 

Funeral services will be held in St. Paul’s Church at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Darcy Miller, her pastor officiating.
 

Interment will be in St. Paul’s Reformed Cemetery, Overton, PA.

Tom Waluk, 73

Tom Waluk, 73, of R.R. 3, Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008, at home from a brief illness.
 

He was born in Scranton, PA, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rohe, and was raised as an infant by Burton and Lizzie Jones of Wyalusing. 
 

Tom graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1953.
 

He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959.
 

He retired from GTE OSRAM in 1993 after 31 years of service.
 

Tom married the former Marilyn Irvine, they celebrated 52 wonderful years on January 29, 2008.
 

He is a member of the Wyalusing Lodge No. 618 F.&A.M., Union Royal Arch Chapter of Towanda, Towanda Gun Club, and the National Rifle Association.
 

Tom was a devoted husband and father, and will be greatly missed by his family.
 

He liked to hunt, fish and travel. He found great pleasure in country living, and enjoyed riding four wheeler on his property.
 

Surviving is his wife: Marilyn, at home; two sons: Brian and companion Beth Colby, of R.D. 2, Wyalusing; David at home; two grandsons: Beau and friend Gala, both in the Armed Forces in Fort Jackson, S.C., Brock and Fiancée Ashley, of Highspire, PA; great grandson: Dagyn; Shelli Waluk, of R.R. 3, Wyalusing, PA; sisters: Bernadine Burke, of Conklin, NY, Cathy Pedro, of Dallastown, PA, Mary (Dick) Taffe of Dushore, PA; brothers: Larry and Jo Rohe, of Dushore, PA; brother-in-law: Ronnie and wife Nancy, of Wysox, PA, brother–in-law: Bob and wife Marion of Wysox, PA, brother-in-law: Donald Irvine, of Wysox, PA; and by his several nieces and nephews.
 

He was predeceased by Mr. and Mrs. Burton Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rohe, Charles Irvine and Helen Irvine Bishop, by a sister in-law: Odessa Irvine, and by brother-in-law: John Burke.
 

Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, April 17, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church Street, Wyalusing, PA.
 

A Masonic funeral service will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. in the funeral home by Wyalusing Lodge No. 618 F.&A.M.
 

Funeral services will follow on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in McHenry Funeral Home, with Rev. Diane Prentice, pastor of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church, officiating.
 

Interment will be in Standing Stone Cemetery.

Alice Rose Driscoll, 92

Alice Rose Driscoll of Forksville, PA died at Darway Elder Care on April 8, 2008 at the age of 92. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Carl Driscoll, in January of 2007.

 

She is survived by their five children: Gary who resides in Norwalk Iowa with his wife Sandra Linkletter; Wade, who lives in Boardman Ohio with his wife Sandra, Gail Fiorini who resides in Reston Virginia with her husband John; Lynne Seligman, who lives in Kennett Square Pennsylvania with her husband William; and Karen Koehler, who resides in Schwenksville Pennsylvania with her husband Robert.  She took great pride and pleasure in her ten grandchildren: Robert (deceased), Timothy and Tobin Driscoll; Brian and Amanda Driscoll; Cara, John and Michael Fiorini; and Christopher and Gregory Seligman.  She will be missed by her seven great-grandchildren Carl, Selena, Matthew, Ryan, Lucas, Adam and William.

 

Mrs. Driscoll was born in Columbus Ohio on March 24, 1916, daughter of Curtis and Grace Turvey Rose.  She was raised in Corning New York.

 

She earned a Regent’s Scholarship and attended Houghton College, where she met Carl Driscoll.  They were married July 5, 1939 and spent most of their married lives in Sullivan County.

 

Mrs. Driscoll taught Latin at Loyalsock High School from 1960 to 1963 and Latin and English at Sullivan County High School from 1963 to 1966.  She earned a graduate degree in Library Science from Marywood University and served as Librarian for all of the Sullivan County Elementary Schools from 1966 until her retirement in 1979.

 

She was a member of the Board of the Sullivan County Agency on Aging for many years.

 

A memorial service will be held at the Millview Wesleyan Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008.

 

Memorial bequests may be directed to the Sullivan County Library or the Sullivan County Food Pantry.

Esther A. Keeney, 83

Esther A. Keeney, age 83, of New Albany, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, PA. 

 

She was born on May 24, 1924, in Blakely, PA, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Rosa (Silverstrim) Sayman. 

 

Esther graduated with the New Albany High School Class of 1942. 

 

She has been a lifetime resident of New Albany. She was a very active member of the New Albany United Methodist Church. 

 

Prior to her retirement she was employed as a flex clerk for the New Albany Post Office, giving 20 years of her service. 

 

She enjoyed playing cards, tie quilting, collecting teapots, and she enjoyed cooking and baking bread. 

 

Esther raised eight children on her own. On October 11, 1964, she was preceded in death by her husband the late Wesley Keeney 

 

She leaves surviving her children: Joseph (Mert) Keeney, of New Albany, PA, Gary (Sandy) Keeney, of Sayre, PA, Michael (Libby) Keeney, of Towanda, PA, Ronald (Jenn) Keeney, of Troy, PA, Charles Keeney of New Albany. PA; by sisters and brothers: Elizabeth Chapman, Dolores Cox, Fred Sayman, Jr., Ervin Sayman, and Howard Sayman; as well as by her 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; and by her many nieces and nephews. 

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son and two daughters: James Keeney, Patricia Masteller, and Robin Fitzgerald.

Marguerite “Maggie Norconk, 89

Marguerite “Maggie” Norconk, age 89, formerly of Wilmot Township and Dushore, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at The Highland’s Care Center in Laporte, PA.
 

She was born on July 11, 1918, in Wilmot Township, a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Kneller Norconk.
 

Prior to retirement she was employed at the Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory in Mildred.
 

She is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church; and was a member of the Wilmot Grange.
 

She enjoyed her time spent gardening, and liked fishing and being in the outdoors.
 

She leaves surviving a brother Gerald (Rosemary) Norconk, of Waverly, NY; by several nieces and nephews, and by her many friends.
 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers: George, Jacob, and Donald Norconk.
 

Friends and family called on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter Street, Dushore, PA, from 10:00 until 12:00 noon.  Funeral services followed at 12:00 p.m., with the Rev. Robert W. Brown, pastor officiating.
 

Interment was in Norconk Cemetery.

Joseph R. Fromme, 73

Joseph Richard Fromme, age 73, of Forksville, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, PA. 

 

He was born on July 10, 1934, in Pottsville, PA, a son of the late Joseph Howard and Flora Elizabeth (Mugford) Fromme. 

 

Mr. Fromme is a Veteran and served from September 1956 to September 1960 in the US Navy and USAF. 

 

He was a mechanical draftsman. 

 

Mr. Fromme relocated to Forksville from the Baltimore, MD area. 

 

He leaves surviving two children: Jeffrey Todd Fromme, of Albuquerque, NM, and Craig Fromme, of CA; by a special friend and caregiver: Robin Rexer and Richard Bacorn, of Forksville, PA; by a brother: Donald Fromme, of Wrightsville, PA; by a cousin: Suzanne Colver, of Hummelstown, PA, and by an aunt: Faye Gorsuch. 

 

In accordance to his wishes there will be no services.

Allen H. “Home” Davis, 84

Allen H. “Homer” Davis, age 84, of Forksville, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at his home. 

 

He was born on April 11, 1923 in Bristol Hills, NY. 

 

Prior to his retirement in 1988, he was employed by Pullman Power Products. He moved to Hillsgrove in 1988, and to Forksville in 1997. 

 

His memberships included: Plumbers & Steam Fitters Local Unions, Evergreen Lodge No. 163, F.&A.M. in Monroeton, PA; the Williamsport American Legion Post No. 1, and he had attended the Hillsgrove U.M.C.. 

 

He loved to play country music, offering polka and square dancing for over 60 years at local clubs throughout the area. 

 

He is survived by: two sons: Stephen (Joyce) Davis of Linden, PA, Edward David, of Hemet, CA; his companion: Pearl Thomas, of Forksville, PA, by her children: Jason, Aaron, and Angela, of IL; by two sisters: Arlene Merton and Emily Goodman; by four grandchildren: Stephen, Arthur, George, and Joyleen; and by two special young people: Chandra and Jalen. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Olga Davis, and by three brothers and a sister: Lynn Davis, Everett Davis, Paul Davis and Alta White.

Beverly Jane Walters, 72

Beverly Jane Walters, 72, a resident of The Highlands in Laporte, PA, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, PA. 

 

She was born on March 15, 1936, in Newark Valley, NY, a daughter of the late Lester Albert and Nancy Leona (Wheeler) Walters. 

 

Beverly has been a resident of Bradford County since 1952. 

 

She enjoyed cats, birds, her flower beds, and listening to music on the radio. 

 

She is survived by her brothers: Daniel (Lynette) Walters, of Stevensville, PA, David (Doris Brown) Walters, of Towanda, PA; by a sister: Helen Jackson, of West Virginia; special nephews and nieces: Lester Walters, Lloyd Walters, Kimberly Walters, Debra (Howard) Brown and by many other nephews and nieces. 

 

A private committal service will be held at the convenience of the family in Wyalusing Cemetery.

Roy W. Jones, 90

Roy W. Jones
 

            Roy Wellington Jones, age 90, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Thursday March 20, 2008, at the family home on Taylor Avenue. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, on March 27, 1917, Roy was the son of Roy G. C. Jones and Virgilia Taylor Jones of Wyalusing where he spent his early years. He was named in honor of his father Roy G. C. Jones who was a prominent Bradford County politician and his grandfather Alonzo Wellington Jones who fought for Pennsylvania in the Civil War. His great-great grandfather John A. Jones fought in the American Revolution. These connections nurtured Roy’s life-long interest in his Jones and Taylor family heritage and continuing the family tradition of public service. After spending most of his professional career in Rochester, NY, Roy returned to the family home in Wyalusing for a very active retirement and leaves a remarkable legacy of community, state, and national public service.

 

            Roy graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1934 as president of his class and from the Elmira Business Institute in 1936. He also attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Buffalo. He joined the Kraft Cheese Company in 1936 and worked in New York (Elmira and Rochester) and Illinois (Peoria and Chicago) for six years. In 1942, he joined the Stromberg-Carlson Company in Rochester which later became the Electronics Division of the General Dynamics Corporation.  His assignments in support of US national defense activities took him to plants in California, Oklahoma, Florida, New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York. He served in many management positions including Director of Operations, Director of Industrial Relations, and Plant Manager in Rochester prior to his retirement in February 1979.

            Roy was a life-long Presbyterian and served as Deacon and Elder in Rochester’s Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church, Clerk of Session Emeritus of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, and Vice-Moderator of the Presbytery of Lackawana in Pennsylvania. He was also a life member of the Wyalusing Masonic Lodge #618; the Scottish Rite Consistory in Rochester, and the Irem Temple Shrine in Wilkes-Barre.

 

            In Rochester, Roy was a life member of the Rochester Engineering Society; life member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers; member and a Committee Chairman of the Electronics Industry Association; life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America; ten year member of the Board of Directors for Blue Shield; honorary life member, president, and Director of the Rochester Rehabilitation Center; Chairman of the Industrial Management Council; member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Model A Ford Club of America; member of Governor Rockefeller’s New York-Florida Commission; member of the Rochester Civil Service Commission; and listed in the “Who’s Who in Commerce and Industry”.

 

            In Wyalusing, Roy was elected the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of the People State Bank and Chairman of the Board of Peoples Ltd. a bank holding company in 1985; a director of the Wyalusing Industrial Development Commission; board member of the Wyalusing Valley Museum; Chairman of the Wyalusing Municipal Authority 1980-1985; Board of Directors of the Wyalusing Valley Improvement Project; member of the Community Development Advisory Committee of the Northern Tier Regional Planning and Development Commission; retired as the Chairman of the Peoples State Bank and elected Chairman Emeritus in March 1992; established and endowed the Sarah Taylor Scholarship Award for the Wyalusing Elementary School in December 1983; Trustee of the Guthrie Healthcare System; Chairman on the Committee on Trustees and member of the Medical Policy Committee; and member of the Board of Directors of the Long Term Care Division, Guthrie Healthcare System. Roy was recognized for his special contributions to the Guthrie Healthcare System by being named just the 11th Honorary Trustee in their history.

 

            Roy was predeceased by his beloved wife Beverly Boone Jones who died on January 21, 2004 after 64 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his sister Sarah Jones who died as in infant in 1920, a special aunt–Sarah Taylor, and two special cousins–Justus V. Taylor III and Kenneth H. Taylor, Sr. all of Wyalusing. He is survived by his daughter Pamela Jones Quentin of Wyalusing; son David Wellington Jones and wife Nancy of Wyalusing and Sanibel Island, FL; grandsons Bradley Quentin and wife Kimberly Boyce of Houston, TX, Daryl Quentin of Canton, OH, and Roy Jones III of Reston, VA; granddaughter Lisa Jones of London, England; great-granddaughter Zada Jane Boyce-Quentin of Houston, TX; brother-in-law Robert Boone and wife Barbara of Rush, NY; and numerous cousins and many dear friends.

 

            Family and friends may call at the McHenry Funeral Home in Wyalusing on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 from 6 PM to 9 PM. There will also be a viewing at the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, March 26 from 10 AM to 11 AM followed by a funeral service at 11 AM with Rev. Barry Ballard, pastor officiating.

Interment in the Wyalusing Cemetery will follow immediately. After the interment services, refreshment and fellowship in the church’s Social Room will be hosted by the Presbyterian women. Robert Carl Otis, 60

Robert (Bob) Carl Otis, age 60, went home to the Lord on Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Bradford County Manor in West Burlington, after a long battle with lung disease. 

 

He was born on March 26, 1947, at home on the family farm in Camptown a son of Carl E. and Laura (Cobb) Otis. 

 

Bob wrestled at Wyalusing Valley High School, and after graduation worked on the family farm. 

 

In 1971, he married his former wife Shirley Harris, and they had two children Heather and Rob. 

 

Bob drove school bus for several years while also working at Taylor Beef, giving Taylor’s 13 years of service, until becoming disabled from a stroke following back surgery at age 39. 

 

He then started “Bob’s Lawn Mowing Business” and worked at that until he became too ill a couple of years ago. 

 

 

He is survived by his mother: Laura E. (Mae) Otis; his ex-wife: Shirley Whalen; his children: Heather Kithcart and Rob Otis (fiance Kelly Johnson and her children Jim Bob and L.T.); brothers: Max (Claire) Otis, Ted Otis, Rocky Otis, Daryl (Joyce) Otis, Randy (Joan) Otis, half brother and sister: Jeff and Amy Taylor; and by his grandchildren whom he thought the world of: Kimberly, Kaitlyn and Shelbi; a special aunt: Betty Hillis; special niece Rachelle Otis Salsman; by special friends: Lloyd and Mike Farr and Gene Harris; and by many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention; as well as by his extended family at the manor. 

 

He was predeceased by his brother, Tom in 1983, his father Carl in 2002, and by a good friend John (Oliver) Lynn in 1978.
